The boys picked up a cold. No big deal. Sam got over his cold (except for a lingering cough, as is usual with him) But Nate had a hard time with this cold, and I had my first encounter of Preemie respiratory issues!
Nate had a cough for a couple of days. Then on the 3rd day of the cold he got a lot worse. He started coughing so so so much, and was just miserable and crying over everything. The only time he was happy was when I was walking him around the apartment complex. I was beginning to get a bit concerned about him wheezing, and he was breathing really quickly. We kept an eye on him and he finally fell asleep.
Once he fell asleep we realized just how hard of a time he was having. His little chest was heaving, working so hard to get the breaths in and out! We decided to get him to a children's clinic at the hospital. They took a couple of initial readings and directed us to head to Emergency.
5 hours, a respiratory treatment, steroids to help open up the lungs, chest x-ray, and lots of other poking and prying later, we were released with a much better baby. He had a case of Bronchitis. Poor guy.
A few more puffer treatments at home, and he's much better! But I will take the cold turning into an ear infection any day over respiratory problems!
